Establishment of the Association of the Petroleum Industry of Kurdistan (APIKUR)
27 February 2023
International upstream oil and gas companies active in the Kurdistan region of Iraq today announced the establishment of the Association of the Petroleum Industry of Kurdistan (APIKUR). In addition to promoting Kurdistan as a destination for exploration and production companies, service providers, and investors, APIKUR will advocate for the common interests of its members towards all stakeholders and provide a forum to share industry information and best practices.
Since Kurdistan opened up to Western investment 15 years ago, production has climbed from nearly nil to some 400,000 barrels of oil per day, and the international oil companies have been instrumental in this development in partnership with Kurdistan’s government and its Ministry of Natural Resources. APIKUR’s founding members believe the Association can play a role in realising the region’s oil and gas potential.
Recently, APIKUR wrote to the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs to provide the member companies’ perspective on current geopolitical, legal, budgetary, payments and security challenges in the region. Similar letters have been sent to the UK Foreign Office.
APIKUR is a Company Limited by Guarantee established under English law.
